Shaw offers SpeedGauge GPS tool

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Shaw Tracking and SpeedGauge have partnered on a patent licence that allows carriers to schedule reports that rate and rank drivers and identify speed limit violations.

As fleets prepare for the implementation of Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 (CSA 2010), monitoring and managing speed is an integral part of any safety and compliance program, notes Shaw, adding that excessive speed contributes to accidents, poor fuel economy and vehicle maintenance costs.

SpeedGauge is a straight forward patented driver behavior safety training tool that uses street-level speed limit analysis to identify high-risk driving behavior. The system uses GPS data (location and speed) to identify high risk driving behavior.

Specifically, SpeedGauge helps fleet managers identify drivers that habitually drive at excessive speeds on different types of roads.

It also allows managers to rank drivers’ tendency to exceed speed limits, measure changes in driver behavior over time; compare drivers’ performance to the average of the entire fleet.
