Shell crowns repeat winners at annual truck beauty contest

HOUSTON, Texas — The 24th annual Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs truck beauty contest for actively working trucks was held at the Sacramento 49er Travel Plaza with temperatures pushing past 105 degrees on the hot asphalt.Dozens of truckers spent hours cleaning and polishing yards of chrome, paint and tires during the three-day event.The hard work and sweat paid off for the second year in a row for Tom and Kim Turner of Cynthiana, Ky., who won the top prize for the event.The winning couple was awarded Best of Show for their 1995 Peterbilt 379 tractor and a matching 2003 Transcroft step deck trailer.

The Turners competed against a field of truckers from across the US and Canada. In total, more than $10,000 in cash and prizes were awarded at the contest. A select group of 13 truckers also won the bragging rights to appear beside their award winning trucks in the 2007 Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs calendar.

“The Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs truck beauty contest attracts so many amazing trucks and dedicated drivers every year from across the country, and this year was no exception,” said Mark Albert, heavy-duty installed and OEM marketing manager, Shell Lubricants. “The winning couple, Tom and Kim Turner, exemplify the driving desire that Shell shares for its products, to keep getting better and never settling for second best.”

In total, 25 prizes were awarded in categories that included Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor/Trailer Combination, Classic, Best Chrome, Best Theme, Best Mural, Best Lights, People’s Choice.Trucks were judged by industry professionals who work for major trucking publications and broadcast companies. Judges scored the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality, and workmanship. The People’s Choice award was voted on throughout the event by all contestants and spectators and was won by the 1954 Autocar of Jerry Howard of Fairborn, Ohio.

Each participant who competes receives a special gift package consisting of: one gallon of Shell ROTELLA T 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Engine Oil, one gallon of Shell ROTELLA ELC Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze, one tube of Shell RETINAX LX Heavy-Duty Grease, one quart of Shell SPIRAX EW Extended Warranty Gear Oil, a t-shirt and baseball cap with the Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs logo and a 2006 Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs calendar.
