GILFORD, Ont. — The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) Education Foundation will once again be the designated charity to receive proceeds from the David Virgoe Memorial Golf Tournament and Silent Auction.

The event, now in its sixth year, will be held Sept. 15 at the Harbourview Golf and Country Club in Gilford, Ont. The annual tournament is held to pay tribute to Virgoe, who lost his life taking evasive action to avoid oncoming traffic caused by street racers on Hwy. 400 in June, 2007.

This is the fourth year that the OTA Education Foundation was chosen as the charity to receive the proceeds.

“On behalf of the Foundation’s directors, I would like to extend our thanks to Mrs. Virgoe for selecting the Foundation as this annual event’s beneficiary,” said Scott Smith, chairman of the OTA Education Foundation. “We are honoured to be part of this tribute to David Virgoe. Several Ontario university and college students with links to Ontario’s trucking industry will benefit from the generosity of those who participate in this event.”
