TORONTO, Ont. – Skelton Truck Lines Ltd. of Sharon, Ont. earned kudos this morning at the 35th annual National Transportation Week Ontario Awards Breakfast.

The company was presented with the Award of Excellence in Environmental Initiatives.

Just over five years ago, Ron Skelton decided to do something to help the environment, as well as his company’s bottom line. So he invested in a relatively new technology developed by another Ontario company (Canadian Hydrogen Energy Corporation) that promised to reduce harmful emissions and improve fuel efficiency and engine power.

The GlobalTech Hydrogen Fuel Injection System produces hydrogen on demand and injects it into the engine’s air intake, which results in a more complete combustion of gases.

Today, all 20 of Skelton’s trucks are equipped with this system, which amounts to at least a 10 per cent savings in fuel for the company. And as emissions go, his 20 trucks in total reduce emissions by 750 tons per year.
