SLH driver wins Ont. driving champs top honor

TORONTO — The 60th annual Ontario Truck Driving Championships tested the truck handling skills of 78 contestants this month.

Following a rigorous obstacle course test, Jeff MacLean of SLH Transport was named Grand Champion for his display in the Single Tandem pool. Ryan Teskey of Reimer Express Lines, achieved the most points in the Single-Single grouping.

The following truckers were also crowned the top participants in their respective categories:

Step Van: Karen King, Purolator Courier.

Straight Truck: Joe Kuntz, Koch Transport.

Tandem-Tandem: Daniel Bogaert, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods.

Train: Wayne Burnett, Rothsay Maple Leaf Foods.

Rookie of the Year: Paul Rocha, Unisource Canada.

MTO Award: Don Mason, Loblaw Company.

The six first place winners are now off to Quebec City from September 7 – 10, 2006 to compete in the national competition. For more information about truck driving championships go to www.truckchamps.ca (link below).
