Some out-of-service criteria changing for ’11

LANGLEY, B.C. — The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has updated or clarified a number of issues in the latest North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria (OOSC).

According to the BC Trucking Association, for the April 1, 2011 edition, CVSA has made changes affecting the following:

Part 1:

Driver medical/physical requirements

Part 2:

Brake Systems (a. Defective Brakes; j. Low Air Pressure Warning Device; l. Tractor Protection System; m. Air Reservoir Tank)

Exhaust Systems (a. leakage near a driver/sleeper compartment)

Securement of Cargo (e. paragraph 3 & f. tiedown positioning)

Tires (a. Any Tire on Any Front Steering Axle(s) of a Power Unit, paragraph 7, contact with the vehicle)

Emergency Exits and/or Electrical Cables and Systems in Engine and Battery Compartments (Buses) (b. Electrical Cables and Systems in Engine and Battery Compartments).

Part 4:

US Federal Out-of-service Orders (3. Additional OOS order added for new entrant motor carriers).

BCTA says it definitely worth investing in the OOSC, especially if you haven’t updated your edition for a few years.
