The new Cab Power system, developed by Minnesota-based Phillips & Temro Industries for shore power applications, is a series of pre-wired, modular components for over-the-road truck cabs and service vehicles.

The system, which will officially debut at the Mid-America Truck show next month, allows drivers to use standard household appliances in their truck cabs without idling the engine. The result is a more comfortable, convenient cab with reduced fuel consumption and less engine wear, the company says.

The Cab Power system distributes power to l20-volt electrical outlets mounted in the cab and sleeper. Electrical space heaters, air-conditioning systems, microwave ovens, refrigerators, toaster ovens, computers, printers, and even televisions and telephones, work off Cab Power as easily as they do off a home wall socket, the company says.

The system includes a l20-volt AC electrical load center, up to three duplex receptacle outlets and a weatherproof inlet housing. It can be powered by a direct connection to AC power or by a DC/AC inverter connected to the truck’s battery. The system, which meets electrical standards for products in both Canada and the U.S., can be customized to fit the unique interior layout of individual truck cabs.

Other features include: full 1800-watt capacity; integrated, secure wiring, GFCI and circuit breaker protection, and open neutral protection; external and internal receptacles; and TV and phone interface.

The system is available as a line installed, or retrofit item.
