Super-powered gen-set unit
TruckGen
Jacksonville, Fla.-based TruckGen is calling its new 5500-watt Kubota diesel-powered UCT2-5.5 compact gen-set the “most powerful gen-set unit in its size and weight category on the market.”
The system, which can be mounted behind the sleeper, provides more than enough power to keep fuel tanks, oil pans, block heaters and drivers warm on the coldest of days. And there is ample 110-volt power left over for the appliances and gadgets found in today’s large, custom sleepers, the company says.
Unlike some alternate power sources currently in use, the UCT2-5.5 comes with its own alternator for 12-volt DC battery charging. And it includes a plug-in for home or truckstop pedestal AC power.
The gen-set’s Goodyear helical-cut drive system is said to reduce vibration and noise, and comes with an interior-mounted remote start switch so the operator doesn’t have to leave his bunk on a cold night.
Measuring 25-inches wide by 24-inches deep, the base 5.5 unit with an aluminum diamond plate enclosure weights about 300 pounds, with the cab-mounted air conditioner adding about 70 pounds.
