Tandem Axle Reduces Vibration

ArvinMeritor has a new 40,000-pound tandem axle, the MT-40-143-MA-N, that’s said to “virtually eliminate vibration throughout the entire drivetrain.” The axle has a rear carrier featuring “Amboid” gear designs that provide above-centreline positioning of the drive pinion, which greatly reduces interaxle driveline angularity and in turn minimizes driveline vibration, the company says.

Incorporated in this new design is an integral pinion bearing cage to eliminate the bearing-cage-to-carrier joint and its associated potential leak path.

Aimed at over-the-road linehaul operations, the new axle is compatible with all current air-suspension systems and offers a ratio range from 2.64 to 4.11. Available in July from all OEMs, it will have ArvinMeritor’s five-year/750,000-mile linehaul warranty.
