Tanguay lays off employees and halts production

SAINT-PRIME, Que. — Tanguay Industries, a division of Canam Manac Group, will temporarily stop manufacturing forestry equipment at this location beginning June, 27 for an undetermined period of time.

This decision will lead to the lay off of 50 employees out of the 130 unionized and non-unionized workers, but it will not affect the activities led by the sales department, customer service department and the industrial products department.

Raynald Guillemette, vice-president and general manager of Tanguay Industries, said litigation with the U.S. over lumber, stringent economic conditions in the forestry industry and an overstock all led the company’s management to favor this course of action.

The situation will be reevaluated in September by Tanguay management.
