Texas: Mo’ country for old men

DALLAS, Tex. — Have a load coming out of Dallas in the middle of next month? Don’t be surprised it shows up a bit late. Your driver might get distracted.

Word has it that Carl’s Corner Truck Stop — a humdinger of a joint by any measure — actually has a small performing-art theater on the premises and Willie Nelson will be performing there Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Ray Price and actor Billy Bob Thornton and his band, The Boxmasters will also be making an appearance.

The 76-year Nelson is a huge advocate of biodiesel and Carl’s peddles both biodiesel and ethanol in addition to the standard grades.

Last week, the truckstop was featured on HD-Net’s "Dan Rather Reports" in which the 78-year-old newsman presented a feature about the American Trucking Associations and big-rig drivers worried about the future of the profession.

Owned by Legends Travel Centers LLC, the operation stop features 12 diesel/biodiesel fueling lanes plus a wide load island, a separate fueling island for cars and trucks. two restaurants, a convenience store, a saloon, a gift shop featuring official Willie Nelson merchandise and memorabilia, and the 500 seat "Night Life" theater where Nelson will be performing.

Coffee, apparently, is also available.
