Thieves thrive on seafood diet: They see it; they take it
TAMPA, Fla. — In yet another fresh food heist, thieves ripped off about $100,000 worth of seafood this weekend.
Somebody picked up a loaded tractor trailer from a storage area near Palmetto, (south of Tampa) and according to the GPS records, drove it across the nearby Sunshine Skyway to another storage area where it was unloaded.
According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s office, the GPS record shows the truck was then driven back to the Skyway and abandoned on the north side of the bridge, which is where the cops found it.
Police are hoping the satellite tracking system will help them find the culprits.
The theft marks another chapter in the ongoing food-stealing epidemic that is plaguing American truckers, in response, experts say, to the rising price of food.
