TORONTO, Ont. — There are less than two weeks left to nominate a heroic trucker for recognition under the 2002 Bridgestone/Firestone Canadian Truck Hero award program.

Nominations for the prestigious award will be accepted until Oct. 1. Eligible nominees must be Canadian residents and full-time commercial tractor-trailer drivers working for a Canadian carrier.

The incident must have taken place between Oct. 1, 2001 and Sept. 30, 2002. A police statement or affidavit must be submitted, which corroborates the driver’s actions.

A panel of judges will make the decision, taking into consideration the degree of personal danger or risk encountered, the emergency procedures followed, the assistance rendered to victims and the incident and the proper use of safety equipment.

The winner will receive a $3,000 package including a VIP trip for two to Toronto for the award presentation, an invitation to a VIP luncheon as well as a trophy. For more information, call 877-377-7002 or visit www.truckhero.ca.
