Top drivers picked to represent Alberta

RED DEER, Alta. — More than 70 truckers – including 31 rookies – took part in the Alberta version of the professional truck driving championships back in June.

The top drivers in each category also earned a chance to represent Alberta during this year’s National Truck Driving Championships being held in Ottawa Sept. 11 to 13.

Keith Franklin of Canadian Freightways took first place in the Straight Truck category and was also named Grand Champion of the event.

The pressure will be ramped up a few notches during
the national driving competition in September.

Joining Franklin on Team Alberta will be: Kevin Corscadden of Sokil Transportation, Step Van category; Darren Tychowsky of Reimer Express Lines, Single-Single category; Rick Ross of Canadian Freightways, Single-Tandem category; Paul Mills of Canada Safeway, Tandem-Tandem category; and Lonnie Wilton of Canadian Freightways, B-Train category.

Leroy Marshell of the City of Calgary was honored as Rookie of the Year and Canadian Freightways Calgary took home the team trophy.
