Toronto considers tolling roads

TORONTO, Ont. — Toronto city councillors will consider tolling local roads when they meet in the spring to hash out a new transportation plan, the Toronto Sun reports.

Mayor David Miller is not keen on the idea of tolling Toronto expressways, but it is still a consideration, admits Gary Welsh, general manager of Torontos transportation department. He told the Sun tolls will be discussed, along with a lot of ideas.

The Canadian Automobile Association said tolling Toronto highways would result in a massive shift of traffic patterns, driving up congestion in other areas of the city.
