TORONTO, ON— This year, the Toronto Transportation Club (TTC) awarded two scholarship awards, each to students going into their first year of post-secondary education.

The 2013 winners are Jacob Wilkinson from New Market, ON and Melissa Sharvit from Thornhill, ON.

“This financial assistance makes a big difference for me by alleviating some of the stress for me at school which is beneficial to my studies,” said Wilkinson, who is studying theatre performance at Concordia University in Montreal.

Wilkinson plans to pursue a Master’s in acting after his Bachelor of Fine Arts and to promote youth outreach in theatre, which he’s very passionate about.

Sharvit is in her first year at York University and is majoring in Children’s Studies and Concurrent Education.

It’s a five year program by the end of which she’ll be qualified to teach kindergarten to grade six.

“We proudly approved the creation of a second Scholarship award, as well as approved a motion to accept the newly formed scholarship trust agreement,” said John Foss, the club’s immediate past president.

 The TTC Scholarship Fund is financed by proceeds from the club’s many events and financially supports the club members’ dependent children, including grandchildren, adopted children, stepchildren and wards in legal guardianship.

Scholarships of $6,000 annually will be paid to a maximum of four years to graduating students entering their first year of studies at an accredited University or Community College. The deadline for applying is May 30^th and the application can be found here.
