Trailer orders continue to gain momentum

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Commercial trailer net orders continue to surge, with orders up 59% in May compared to last May.

ACT Research also announced that trailer orders are up 69% year-to-date through May.

ACT’s State of the Industry: US Trailers report also showed backlogs rose an additional 10% in May, the fifth consecutive month that order backlogs have risen.

Also positive is that there have been very few order cancellations.

“All signs are indicating that freight growth is rapidly absorbing excess truck capacity,” said Kenny Vieth, senior analyst and partner with ACT Research. “With capacity tightening, trucker profits should begin to improve and swing the pendulum in favour of replacing and growing an aging trailer fleet.”
