TransCore Link Logistics Hands Out Two Scholarships

TORONTO —  The freight-matching service provider TransCore Link Logistics has announced the second annual scholarship recipients for its LinkScholar program.

Shelby Tobin from Conception Bay South, NL and Paige Brown from Whitby, ON were each awarded $2,500 for demonstrating academic excellence, well-roundedness, leadership and benevolence.

Shelby, step-daughter of Darren Brophy at Jardine Transport, is pursuing a bachelor’s of science degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland and plans to major in biology. “This amazing award (will) help alleviate the financial burden of tuition as I enter Memorial,” she said.

Paige is enrolled in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University and has planned an educational path that will lead her into a career as a psychologist. “Ever since I was really little, I really wanted a career where I had the opportunity to help other people and make a difference in other people’s lives,” said Paige, daughter of Russ and Paula Brown at Stryder Logistics Inc.

The students were two of 25 who applied for this year’s program, a 56 percent increase over last year.

“Being the second year for our program, I’m thrilled to see the positive increase in applicants this year,” said Claudia Milicevic, senior director and general manager of TransCore Link Logistics. “We had an impressive group of bright young leaders who applied; however, these two young ladies stood out coupled with particularly strong supportive reference letters from their teachers.”
