TORONTO, Ont. — TransCore’s Canadian Freight Index registered a 26% increase in October, compared to the same time last year. Officials say the numbers represent the strongest start to the fourth quarter since 2007.

Freight movement in October was the second highest level for the same month over the last five years. While the month-over-month comparison saw a decline of 23 index points, freight availability continues to hover above the 200 index point marker, surpassed in March and maintained for eight of the last 10 months, according to the report.

The index also found that total equipment availability dropped 8%, versus the same time last year.
