TransLink says no to proposed truck route change

VANCOUVER — TransLink has sided with the B.C. Trucking Association is denying the Township of Langley’s request to remove 216 Street between 40 Avenue and Fraser Highway from the town’s truck route network.

BCTA says this is the first time TransLink has issued a decision on this type without any additional consultation.

TransLink also issued guidelines for evaluating proposals to remove commercial vehicles from routes:

Decision maker must consider the additional burden on other residents and businesses that would be affected by eliminating truck routes; noise and vibration issues (which could be handled with bylaws restricting engine brakes); and safety issues (can be achieved through such measures as the construction of sidewalks).
