OTTAWA (Sept. 11, 2001) — Transport Minister David Collenette today released the following statement concerning the apparent terrorist attacks in the United States.

“I would first like to convey my condolences to the families of those killed in these attacks.

“Transport Canada is in close contact with U.S. officials. Until further notice, all air movements from Canadian airports are grounded, except for those flights required for urgent humanitarian purposes, and diversions by the FAA of international aircraft previously destined for the United States.

“Transport Canada is on its highest alert. We will continue to monitor the situation and take whatever action is necessary.”
