Truck driver shot as load stolen

CONCORD, Ont. — A truck driver was shot this morning as robbers took off with a load of cigarettes.

York Region police say they are looking for three armed bandits after a morning hijacking. The driver was shot in the ankle while picking up his load with a five-tonne delivery truck. The shooting occurred on Keele St. north of Hwy. 407 at 5:30 a.m., police report.

Police have since found the empty truck in an industrial area.

The driver has had the bullet removed from his leg and will be fine, Cst. Laurie Perks told the Toronto Star.
