Truck-Lite celebrates 50 years in business

FALCONER, N.Y. (Mar. 24, 2005) — Truck-Lite is celebrating its 50th anniversary serving the lighting needs of the trucking industry.

The company was born out of a small garage on the south side of Jamestown, N.Y., when founders George Baldwin and Harry Grosser designed the first sealed marker lamp.

Truck-Lite has grown a lot since then. Its lighting, wire harnesses, mirrors, turn signal switches, and accessory products are installed in about 70 percent of North America’s top 200 fleets.

Truck-Lite employees approximately 2,300 people worldwide and in over 500,000 square feet of floor space. It’s the largest supplier of LEDs to the heavy-duty commercial vehicle industry and the second largest in the transportation industry, with almost 200 patents issued or pending.

In November 2004, Truck-Lite acquired FER Fahrzeugelektrik of Eisenach, Germany — a manufacturer of motor vehicle component parts with facilities around the world. The company says the acquisition strengthens Truck-Lite’s global presence in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
