Truck-Lite’s new side-turn signal lamp
Truck-Lite
Truck-Lite’s new Super 60 STS amber 6-inch oval LED side turn signal and marker lamp is the first of its kind to exceed all standards for both types of lights, according to the company.
Previously, LED side turn lamps could qualify only as legal side markers, but could not qualify as side turn signals under SAE J2039. The company used advanced optics design software to develop a single lamp that exceeds both the SAE requirements and FMVSS 108. The latest revisions to the SAE Recommended Practice call for side turn signals located along the side of a long trailer of a combination vehicle to meet minimum luminance requirements at angles that would normally be in the line of sight of drivers being passed or passing the truck. The lamp may also be used on tractors.
With the new Super 60 STS, truck operators will no longer need to mount side turn signals at a rearward-facing angle, as is the current practice, the company said.
