Trucker, can you spare 10 minutes?

WINNIPEG — The Transport Institute at the University of Manitoba needs your participation in order to get the pulse of where the trucking industry is today and where you think it might be headed tomorrow.

The institute, in conjunction with the Quixote Group and the Canadian government, is conducting a survey designed to get your opinions, thoughts and attitudes on vehicle technology, new engine emissions rules and fuel efficiency.

The survey consists of 15 questions and is intended to measure current and future usage of fuel saving and emission technologies, including aerodynamics, tire and wheel technology, idle reduction technology, long combination vehicles, and attitudes toward SCR and increased ERG technology in new 2010 truck engines.

The survey hopes to pin down which technologies are most likely to be adopted by truckers and carrier companies. It will also provide some direction for future development work relative to fuel-savings technologies, organizers say.

The final results will be presented at the Transport Institute Future of Trucking Symposium Engines and Emissions Presentation and Panel discussion on Feb. 19 in Winnipeg. The panel consists of companies like Detroit Diesel, Cummins, Volvo, Mack and Navistar as well as the EPA.
