KINGSVILLE, Ont. — Police have dubbed a trucker who was involved in a fiery accident over the weekend a “hero.”

According to a report in the Windsor Star, OPP Const. Janet Hayes said truck driver Jody Rumble is “definitely a hero” after risking his life to free a driver from his burning car. The OPP plans to nominate Rumble for a bravery award, according to the report.

Rumble was involved in an accident with a Chrysler Intrepid that reportedly ran a red light and hit a transport truck early Sunday morning. The Intrepid bust into flames, but Rumble, who was injured himself, reportedly climbed into the fiery vehicle to free its driver. The driver of the Intrepid remains in hospital in critical condition, according to the Windsor Star.

A police investigation is continuing and charges against the car’s driver are pending.
