Turnpike Global bought by US fleet management provider
OAKVILLE, Ont. — Canadian-based GPS and hand-held tracking systems provider Turnpike Global Technologies has been acquired by Xata Corp. of Eden Prairie for $20 million.
Xata Corp., which raised $30 million in venture capital from investors, designs software to manage fleet operations in the trucking industry.
The $30 million will buy Turnpike as well as eliminate debt.
Turnpike, which also provides electronic accounting, will operate as a division of Xata.
Through this acquisition, Xata will now have more than 100,000 fleet management systems deployed with over 1,400 customers across North America. Buying Turnpike will also expand XATA’s product portfolio and expertise in the PDA or hand-held device market and distribution through channel partners – wireless carriers such as Sprint and AT&T.
