Update! Humber Truck Career Day Coming Sooner Than We Thought!
TORONTO — Oops! A story we published earlier this week had the wrong date for a Trucking Career Day at Humber Transportation Training Centre. The event is actually this coming Wednesday, July 15, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the college’s north campus, 55 Woodbine Downs Blvd. We apologize for the mix-up.
Twenty-one recruiters from some of the nation’s best trucking companies will be on hand to discuss new employment opportunities and the qualifications needed, according to the school.
There will be representatives from Schneider National, Canada Post, Challenger Motor Freight, Combined Metal Industries, Kriska Transportation, Werner Enterprises, GFL Environmental, Labatt Breweries, The Rosedale Group, Thomson Group of Companies, TransCore, XTL Transport and many more.
“The current high demand for commercial drivers has had a positive effect in increasing wages and benefits,” said Rick Mikula, program liaison officer at Humber. “Many employers have introduced signing bonuses, tuition reimbursement programs and other incentives as a way of attracting drivers.”
He said many of the schools graduates are employed within weeks of completing the program and can earn a starting wage of anywhere from $45,000 to $55,000 a year.
Humber offers commercial driver driving for license class G to AZ (tractor-trailer), G to DZ (straight truck), and DZ to AZ (tractor-trailer from straight truck license).
Established in 1967, Humber is one of Canada’s leading postsecondary institutions.
