Detroit Diesel says a new software release will soon be available to customers, free of charge, that will enhance the fuel economy of EPA ’07 Series 60 engines by up to 2.5%. No small deal.
“Extensive testing of the Series 60 has shown our particulate filter regeneration process is more effective than originally anticipated,” explains David Siler, DDC’s director of marketing. “The fact that the filters are staying clean, combined with some advancements in the regeneration software, allow us to enhance the regeneration process to improve the fuel efficiency for the engines.”
In addition to regeneration-cycle modifications, Detroit says that trip to the shop can also be used to program a couple of other no-charge features that can save fuel – like progressive shifting, which limits engine speed during upshifting, and optimizing engine speed while in cruise control.
You can visit any Detroit Diesel dealer or distributor to have your ’07 Series 60 re-flashed beginning July 1. All Series 60 engines built after that will automatically be programmed for the modified regeneration cycle.
