U.S. transport board approves CN-Wisconsin Central deal

MONTREAL (Sept. 10, 2001) — Canadian National Railway Co. received approval from the U.S. Surface Transportation Board on Friday for its $800 million acquisition of Wisconsin Central Transportation Corp.

CN said the deal, expected to close early next month, would create between $50 million and $60 million in annual cost savings and added revenues.

The deal also includes $400 million of debt.
