Vitran moves over to NASDAQ
TORONTO, (Mar. 3, 2005) — Vitran Corp. a large Toronto-based LTL and logistics firm, announced that it has been approved for listing on the NASDAQ National Market under the symbol VTNC.
Trading on the NASDAQ is expected to commence on Monday, March 7, 2005. Vitran’s common shares will continue to trade on AMEX until March 4, the company stated in a release.
“We are very pleased to join the majority of our trucking industry peers on NASDAQ, and believe this is a logical next step in supporting Vitran’s growth while offering our U.S. shareholders enhanced liquidity. We thank everyone at the American Stock Exchange for their fine service and support,” stated Vitran President and CEO Rick Gaetz.
Vitran was rated as Canada’s third largest trucking company in Today’s Trucking’s 2005 Top 100 For-Hire Carrier list. It also places No. 57 on Transport Topics magazine’s top 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
Recently, Gaetz told Today’s Trucking he plans to expand Vitran’s American operations, focusing on LTL markets in the U.S. southeast, southwest, and west coast.
