Vitran sells environmental recycling business
TORONTO (Jan. 4, 2002) — Vitran Corp., parent of Vitran Express, is selling its environmental recycling business in order to focus more on its core freight transportation and logistics operations.
Vitran said it has agreed to sell ETL of Surrey, B.C., to Metro Waste Paper Recovery for an undisclosed amount of cash.
“This is a mutually beneficial agreement for both parties since Vitran realized cash for a non-core asset, and ETL provides Metro Waste with a good foundation for future growth,” said Vitran president and CEO Richard D. McGraw.
Vitran primarily handles less-than-truckload freight in the U.S. Midwest and Canada through its Vitran Express subsidiary. It also has logistics, truckload, intermodal, and freight brokerage operations.
