Volvo Powertrain wins environmental award

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Volvo Powertrain North America was recently recognized for its commitment to the environment by Businesses for the Bay, an organization made up of businesses located near the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, which are helping restore the health of the Bay and its ecosystems.

Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich, Jr., presented the award for Outstanding Achievement for Pollution Prevention to Volvo Powertrain officials at ceremony sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

According to Ake Aronsson, senior vice president of Volvo Powertrain North America, the ISO 14001 certified Hagerstown facility has completed a variety of projects in recent years aimed the environment.

In addition, the Hagerstown facility’s new Engine Development Laboratory not only features energy efficient systems, but is also the centerpiece for the development of new Volvo Powertrain products, such as cleaner diesel engines, and will also support research into alternative fuel sources.
