Volvo’s VHD

The VHD, which replaces WG straight trucks and Autocar trucks and tractors, is available in 16 different truck and tractor models ranging from 6×4 to 12×4 axle configurations. Application-based spec packages include dump, mixer, block, rear- packer, container roll-off, crane, fire and rescue, general freight, logging, and heavy-haul.

* Cab: Galvanized high-strength steel, welded. 113-inch BBC. * Wheelbase: 134 to 320 inches. Set-forward or set-back front axle available. * Powertrain: Volvo VE 345, 345-hp @ 1800 RPM, 1350 lb.-ft. @ 1100 RPM; Eaton Fuller RTO-14908LL, 10 speed; Meritor RS23-186, 23,000-lb. capacity (single drive axle) or Volvo T-Ride VBT4012R, 40,000-lb. capacity (tandem drive axles). * Frame: Heat-treated alloy steel, 11.81 x 3.54 x .31 inches. Seven different frame configurations available. * Production schedule: Full production starts in January 2001. Volvo promises 35-day delivery-eventually cut to 21-not including body installation.
