Wal-Mart names Con-way LTL Carrier of the Year

SAN MATEO, Calif. — For the second year in a row, North American LTL giant Con-way Freight has been named 2008 LTL Carrier of the Year by Wal-Mart Stores for its customer service, operational excellence and creative solutions.

The honor, which was given after an annual performance evaluation of Con-way’s trucking and logistics service providers, was based on the carrier’s prompt delivery, market coverage, transit times, claims prevention, effective communication and ease of doing business.

Con-way — which runs a Canadian fleet out of Mississauga, Ont. — received the same honor by Wal-Mart in 2005 for its leadership in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

"Walmart realizes the continued pressure and challenges facing the transportation industry," said Kelly Abney, vice president of transportation for Wal-Mart, in a commendation. "Your ability to rise above these obstacles has won our utmost trust and confidence. We look forward to a long and rewarding partnership."
