LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Webb Wheel Products has rolled out the industry’s first self-cleaning brake drum, engineered for Lynnfin Truck Technologies’ BrakeTurbines.

The Webb BTS (BrakeTurbines System) brake drums are designed for use with Lynnfin’s BrakeTurbines, and the company says the new product will improve brake life and performance while lowering maintenance costs.

Lynnfin’s BrakeTurbines are designed to decrease surface temperatures of brake friction material by up to 30 per cent, thus increasing brake torque. The Webb BTS drum will maximize the performance benefits of BrakeTurbines, says the company.

The cleaning is facilitated by a cool, cleaning stream of air between the drum and friction material, which blows hot air and brake dust from the drum. There are other cooling features as well to improve performance, such as multiple ribs that increase surface area resulting in better heat dissipation. Special vents are also added to the brake drum to keep material out and blow out brake dust.

The ideal market for the new brake drum is heavy-duty, stop-and-go applications such as refuse, dump trucks and buses. The drums are available in seven-, eight- and 8 5.8-inch sizes. For more information, visit www.webbwheel.com or contact Webb at 800-257-3889.
