Western Star posts strong third-quarter gains

KELOWNA, B.C. (May 1, 2000) — Western Star Trucks Holdings Ltd. reports for its third quarter ended March 31 net income jumped to $22.3 million, or $1.55 a share, from $8.7 million, or 61 cents a share, for the same period in 1999.

Net income from continuing operations has decreased by $4.8 million due mainly to decreased gross margins from the sale of heavy trucks, the company said.
