SAN FRANCISCO, Cal. — Country music legend Willie Nelson is being honoured by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for his support of biodiesel.

Nelson is partner in a company that has launched BioWillie, a B20 retail outlet in the U.S. that carries Nelson’s unique brand of clean-burning fuel. Nelson said he first heard about biodiesel two years ago.

“I said, ah ha, this is a light at the end of the tunnel, a way we can grow our way out of some of the problems we are in. I wanted to do something to help get the word out,” Nelson said.

Nelson, a founding member of Farm Aid, has long been an advocate of North American farmers. He has also shared a kinship with truckers. By endorsing biodiesel, Nelson has created a wider awareness of the alternative fuel.

Nelson will receive his award tonight in California.
