BRAMPTON, Ont. — A half-hour downpour wasn’t enough to dampen spirits or to put the brakes on the Toronto Regional Truck Driving Championships held June 12 at the Shopper’s World Mall in Brampton.

The top four drivers competing in five categories stamped their tickets to the provincial championships, which will be held July 10 at Mohawk Raceway in Campbellville, Ont.

Winners from the Toronto event included:

Straight Truck Division: 1st – Tiberio Traverja (City of Brampton), 2nd – Satnam Saini (FedEx Freight), 3rd – Angela Hartlev (City of Brampton), 4th – Aaron Kershaw (Erb Transport);

Single/Single Division: 1st – Todd Hewines (Gordon Food Service), 2nd – Shawn Pietracupa (Con-Way Freight), 3rd – Patrick Clark (Con-Way Freight), 4th – Scott Hewines (Gordon Food Service)

Single/Tandem Division: 1st – Jason Wingle (Con-Way Freight), 2nd – Frank Roberti (Epic Express), 3rd – Andy Kivisto (Reimer Express Lines), 4th – Dave Sarju (Epic Express)

Tandem/Tandem Division: 1st – Dan Congdon (Reimer Express Lines), 2nd – Don Mason (Loblaws), 3rd – Preetpal Nijjar (Canada Cartage), 4th – Jaswinder Sandhu (FedEx Freight)

Train Division: 1st – Tom Tuttle (Bison Transport), 2nd – Gerry Morgan (Crown Drain), 3rd – Howard Moore (FedEx Freight).

Epic Express won the Team Trophy and Reimer’s Congdon was named Grand Champion. FedEx Freight driver Sandhu won Rookie of the Year honours.
