Winnipeg opens Provencher Bridge

WINNIPEG, Man. — Winnipeg’s new Provencher Bridge is opening to eastbound traffic today, with westbound traffic to get the go-ahead on the weekend.

Traffic will flow in both directions, however, once the bridge is completed, another set of lanes will be opened dramatically increasing the bridge’s capacity.

"This is a milestone in the project," public works spokesman Bob McDonald tells local media. "For a period of time, there will still be traffic on the old bridge and the new."

It’ll be about a year before the entire bridge is finished and opened to traffic on all lanes.
