CAMBRIDGE, Ont. — The Worlds Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics will be taking place once again in various cities across Canada and the US this fall. The event, which will take place Sept. 15, includes such Canadian locations as Abbotsford, B.C.; Red Deer, Alta.; Winnipeg, Man.; Cambridge, Ont. and Montreal, Que.

The annual event unites law enforcement and truckers, who will raise funds for Special Olympics athletes to allow them to continue to participate in the sporting event for free.

Since the convoy event began in 2001, more than 5,000 trucks have traversed more than 1,000 miles during the Guinness Book of World Record-breaking event. In 2006, nearly $550,000 was raised for Special Olympics programs in the Canada and the US.

Registration is set at $100 per truck, though trucking companies can bid additional sponsorship funds to win the spot of lead convoy truck. For more information contact Shavonne Harding at 202-824-0201 or sharding@specialolympics.org or visit www.worldslargesttruckconvoy.com.
