WINNIPEG, Man. — A pair of World’s Largest Truck Convoy events will be taking place tomorrow in Alberta and Ontario, as troops of trucks will be hitting the highway in support of the Special Olympics.

Working in conjunction with the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) and the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), the Manitoba convoy will depart from Oak Bluff at 11 a.m. and will travel counterclockwise around the Perimeter Highway (Hwy#101). Upon their return to Oak Bluff, the participants will be welcomed by Special Olympics Manitoba athletes, family, friends, colleagues and law enforcement personnel for lunch. A short program including Special Olympics Manitoba athletes will follow.

The Ontario convoy event will depart at 10 a.m. at the Paris Fairgrounds in Paris, Ont. heading west along highways 403 and 401 to Putnam before circling back. The convoy will be following by lunch, entertainment, awards and prizes, before drivers and Special Olympics athletes take part in a game of bocce.

Since its inception in 2001, the World’s Largest Truck Convoy has raised more than $4 million for the Special Olympics in Canada and the US. In 2011, 834 drivers raised more than half a million dollars at 29 convoy events internationally.
