Yanke to be honored at prestigious SABEX awards

SASKATOON — One of Saskatchewan’s most respected trucking carriers, Yanke Group of Companies, is being inducted into the Saskatoon Achievement in Business Excellence (SABEX) Hall of Fame.

According to the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, the award will be presented to Yanke at the Celebrate Success Gala on May 15 at TCU Place. The ceremony is sponsored by the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, among other groups.

In the past Yanke has received other SABEX awards — including Business of the Year in 2002 — but none as prestigious as a Hall of Fame nod.
Past inductees to the SABEX Hall of Fame mostly include family run companies.

Yanke was founded in 1968 by Norman Yanke, who started out with two trucks. It was purchased by Marcoux Brothers Trucking, run by Russel, Joe, and John Marcoux, in 1980.

In 1986 the company, now named Yanke Transfer, expanded into van operations, hauling yellowcake uranium in the region.

Yanke, which specializes in truckload, expedited, and intermodal services, has since expanded its fleet to over 500 tractors, over 1400 trailers, and about 200 owner-operators. It has consistently been in the top 20 of Today’s Trucking’s Top 100 For-Hire carrier list for several years.

“We truly cherish this award,” owner and CEO Russel Marcoux told the newspaper. “Being inducted to the hall of fame means that you made it.”
Marcoux is also a director of the Saskatchewan Transportation Co., chair of Saskatchewan Agrivision Corp., and is the 2006 board chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

Always a farmer at heart, Marcoux is still involved in a grain farming operation in his hometown of Viscount, Sask.
