NEW YORK, (Feb. 23, 2005) — LTL trucking giant Yellow Roadway Corp. is reportedly in talks to acquire the trucking and logistics operations of USF Corp.

According to the Wall Street Journal, negotiations between the two companies are at “a delicate stage and could fall apart.” The potential deal could be valued at more than $1 billion.

USF Corp. is the holding company for a $2.4 billion group of companies that as a network provides a variety supply-chain services throughout North America. The group specializes in regional and national LTL freight transportation; high value and premium truckload freight; and distribution and logistics.

The USF group of regional carriers moved more than 20 billion pounds of freight last year, reaching points all over the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

In the fall of 2003 Yellow Roadway became one of the largest trucking powerhouses in the world when Yellow acquired rival LTL carrier Roadway Corp. for nearly $1 billion.
