Your Drivers do Pre-Trips; But Do you Pre-Trip your Drivers?

OTTAWA—Of course your people check your trucks before you start driving. But do you check your staffing and retention policies before you start hiring?

The people at the new trucking human-resource organization called Trucking HR Canada have made it simple and inexpensive to conduct corporate human-resources circle-checks.

Using the new, super-easy-to-navigate and completely free online tool, called “HR Circle Check,” in a mere 15 minutes a manager can get a high-level overview of business practices including:

Managing the business concerns related to human resourcesAttracting qualified candidatesManaging the application processScreening and assessing candidatesHiring and orientationUnderstanding retention and turnoverMentoring new employeesCreating a high-performance workplace

Detailed HR Diagnostics explore the individual topics in further detail.

“Every fleet will be familiar with the important role of circle checks in monitoring a truck’s mechanical condition,” said Tamara Miller, Trucking HR Canada’s director – programs and services.

“Our new HR Circle Check self-assessment tool offers a similar step-by-step process for analyzing the policies and procedures used to attract, train and retain the people who work with the trucks.”

These business practices can have a significant financial impact. “It costs between $6,000 and $10,000 to recruit and train a new truck driver – and this is in addition to the business opportunities that are lost when qualified people cannot be found,” Miller said as an example.

HR Circle Check is very easy to use and self-explanatory. Check it out for yourself at truckinghr.com and click on “HR Circle Check.”
