RAIL FREIGHT ON THE DECLINE
OTTAWA, Ont. — Rail freight loaded during the week of Dec. 21, 2000 totaled only 4.6 million tonnes, that’s down 1.5 per cent from the same period of 1999 reports Statistics Canada.
The total number of cars loaded was down as well, slumping by 1.1 per cent.
Intermodal tonnage was 399,000 metric tonnes. Again this number represents a decrease of 0.6 per cent from the same period of 1999.
