TAKE IT EASY PASSING PLOUGHS
ST. JOHN’S Nfld. — The RCMP and Newfoundland’s Department of Works, Services and Transportation is advising truckers to use caution when passing ploughs.
Newfoundland’s record snowfall this winter — including four storms in St. John’s this week alone — have resulted in a number of accidents in connection with road-clearing operations.
One tractor-trailer on the western part of the island went off the Trans-Canada Highway while trying to pass a plough.
The RCMP cautions the standard lane is 12 feet wide, but a snowplough’s wing blade reaches out an additional three feet.
