Arbitrator to intervene in contractual dispute between MRDC, road builder
FREDERICTON, N.B. — While the Fredericton-Moncton Highway nears completion, the road builder and province will meet with an arbitrator to resolve several contractual differences.
Although details of the contractual dispute aren’t being released, the Maritime Road Development Corporation and the Fredericton-Moncton Highway Project Company have agreed that former Supreme Court judge Peter Cory will head the arbitration effort.
“When you get a project of this magnitude, there are going to be issues,” Transportation Minister Margaret-Ann Blaney told local media. “This is fairly standard. It’s not unusual that you will have issues.”
Only about 100 kilometres of the highway are left to be paved, and it appears the project will be completed before the scheduled deadline of Nov. 30.
