New truck stop planned for western end of the 401
ESSEX COUNTY, Ont. — Next spring a group led by Ross Clarke hopes to start construction on a new full service truck and travel plaza at the intersection of Hwy.s 401 and 77.
The site, just 30 minutes from the Ambassador Bridge, offers 24 acres, has the proper zoning and municipal services and, according to Clarke, even has MTO approved direct-in access.
“We will probably have parking for 200 trucks with full trucker services,” he explains. “We have 36 acres zoned and adjacent to the travel plaza to develop complimentary trucker services such as fast lube, full repair, inspection, tire and who knows what else.”
Also, the owner of the property to the west continues to pursue development of a CASCAR racetrack on the adjoining 250 acres — which would give the site the potential to produce a true oasis for truckers running the 401.
