P.E.I. trucker apologizes for Quebec crash
QUEBEC, Que. – A Prince Edward Island truck driver who hit a row of vehicles last summer and set off a chain-reaction crash that killed four people has made a public apology for the accident.
“It’s beyond words. I’m sorry for what happened,” said Jason Fisher, 22, after he testified at a coroner’s inquest.
Fisher said he was unable to work for six months after the crash last July, south of Quebec City.
He told the inquest that his training on handling trucks laden with large loads amounted to only a few hours in total.
Jean Grandbois, an expert with the firm Camtech, testified that the heavily loaded truck’s brake system was so faulty the vehicle shouldn’t even have been on the road. n
